Meet the Teacher!

Ashya Shanell is a Chicago-based designer, tailor, and the creative behind Chicago Fairy. Her work spans music, professional sports, and her own design practice, where she explores storytelling, reconstruction, and unexpected materials. Inspired by fashion-forward shows like Sister, Sister, That’s So Raven, Eve, and The Nanny, Ashya developed the whimsical style that shapes her work today.

Ashya has a hands-on teaching approach that draws from her experience in tailoring, alterations, and garment construction, helping students build confidence and learn techniques they can use in future projects.

Whether she’s working with rhinestones or perfecting a fit behind the sewing machine, Chicago Fairy is known to leave a little fairy dust wherever she goes!
